Every setting, in plain English

Upload a clear, well-lit photo — flowers, fruit, a quilt block, even a logo. Busy backgrounds steal yarn colors, so a subject that fills the frame works best. Drag onto the drop zone or pick a sample to see how a setting behaves before you commit your own photo.

The tiny thumbnail on the granny preview is the source crop, so you can compare photo and stitches while you tweak.

This is the biggest decision. Same sunflower chart, three ways to crochet it.

The resolution of the chart. Classic and picture count clusters per side. Blanket counts mini squares per side.

Classic round count is roughly half the grid (a 10-cluster side is 5 rounds). Blanket at 12 is 144 mini squares.

How many dyes we allow in the palette. Similar pixels share a number — this is how many balls you buy, not how many shades exist in the photo.

Colors that never get used in the chosen style are dropped from the yarn list. Classic especially: only the majority color of each round is kept.

Contrast of the photo before we pick yarn colors. Turn it up if the flower and the background are blending into the same number. Turn it down if highlights blow out to a lone white cluster.

How juicy the source colors are before quantization. Flowers often need a bump so yellow petals don’t collapse into the same beige as the linen background. Dial it back for muted vintage photos.

We always cover-crop to a square. Zoom punches in on the center, which is where most flower heads sit. There is no pan — if the bloom is in a corner, crop the photo first, then upload.

Granny draws the stitches. Chart is the paint-by-number grid. Number overlay stamps the palette number on every cluster — 1 is the first yarn, not round 1.

Yardage is counted from the chart: clusters (or minis) × a per-stitch allowance for that weight, plus tails and a 10% buffer. Finished size scales with the yarn — same chart, four gauges:

*A 10-cluster worsted classic is about 10 inches. How many squares multiplies classic and picture yardage. Blanket already is many minis — the stepper stays at one motif so you don’t double-count.

The right column is the pattern: materials, finished size, then US-term rounds (magic ring, 3-dc clusters, chain corners). Copy pattern grabs the whole write-up plus the yarn list.

Write floral granny is optional AI: a traditional motif (puff petals, African flower, sunflower) written from this palette. It is a second pattern, not a replacement for the charted square.
